Electronic Controlled Substances Ordering (CSOS) for EMS

Modernize controlled substance ordering with secure, compliant processes that replace manual paperwork.

Electronic Controlled Substances Ordering (CSOS) is a secure system developed by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) that allows authorized healthcare providers to order controlled substances electronically. By replacing paper DEA Form 222 with digital ordering, CSOS enables faster processing, improved accuracy, and enhanced compliance through secure authentication and encrypted transactions.

Bound Tree supports EMS agencies and licensed medical professionals by providing access to CSOS ordering, along with the guidance and resources needed to navigate registration, certification, and ongoing compliance requirements.

CSOS FAQs

CSOS was developed by the DEA for the electronic transmission of Class II controlled substances orders. It is the only allowance for electronic ordering of Class II controlled substances.

CSOS allows authorized purchasers to order Schedule I and II controlled substances electronically using DEA-issued digital certificates. Each transaction is securely signed and transmitted, ensuring that all orders are authenticated, traceable, and compliant with federal regulations.

CSOS eliminates the need for paper Form 222 by allowing secure electronic ordering using DEA-issued digital certificates.

CSOS is available to registered DEA entities and authorized individuals who have completed the certification process.
